• Hobart Athletic Training

Each year we treat hundreds of injuries in the athletic training room. Luckily, a majority of the injuries are minor. Knowing the risks, Hobart High School is fortunate enough to have three nationally certified and state licensed athletic trainers. The athletic training staff will attend to all school sponsored athletic related injuries in a quick and professional manor.

The Certified Athletic Trainer is a highly educated and skilled professional specializing in athletic health care. In cooperation with physicians and other allied health personnel, the athletic trainer functions as an integral member of the athletic health care team. Furthermore, the certified athletic trainer will be the first person to render care to the injured athlete.

Certified athletic trainers have, at minimum, a bachelors degree, usually in athletic training. The typical course work for athletic trainers consists of human anatomy, human physiology, biomechanics, exercise physiology, nutrition, psychology/counseling, and emergency medical techniques. Other classes include evaluation and assessment of injuries, treatment procedures for injuries and rehabilitation of injuries. Certified athletic trainers also participate in extensive clinical affiliations with various athletic teams.

Upon completion of an approved athletic training curriculum, the candidate must sit for a national examination, which consists of three parts. The examination consists of a written portion with multiple-choice questions, a practical section that evaluates the skill components of athletic training, and a written simulation test, consisting of athletic training related situations. Once all three parts have been passed the candidate may call himself or herself a Certified Athletic Trainer.

All athletic trainers at Hobart High School are licensed by the state of Indiana and are in accordance with Indiana Code 25-5.1 Athletic Trainers licensure Act of 1998
