    Policy and Procedures

    Attendance:
Regular and punctual attendance is important in order to fulfill the education needs of every child. The school day starts promptly at 8:35 a.m.  Students need to be in their seats and ready for instruction.  The education of a child can be seriously affected by absences.  Your child's success at school depends on regular and consistant attendance. Most subjects are taught in sequence requiring the understanding of the concepts in order of presentation. Missing class creates a hardship for students. If an absence occurs a note please send me a note (the next day) stating the nature of the absence. A note must follow each absence even if a phone call was previously made to the school secretary.

After the student returns to school, he or she needs to get a "While You Were Out" form to find out their make -up work. All make-up work must be completed in 48 hours to receive a grade. Work not returned in 48 hours will be counted as a failing grade.

    Bathroom Breaks and Drinking Fountain:
Students will be sent to the restroom 1 time in the morning and 1 time after lunch. Any other trips to the restroom must have permission from the teacher. Bathroom trips will not be allowed during instructional time. Students that are using the restroom or drinking fountain are to be on their best behavior.  Anyone found to be wasting time or playing in the bathroom or hallway will lose their independent bathroom privledges. Whenever you leave the classroom, Mrs. Hathaway trusts that you will follow the school rules and procedures.

Students are allowed to bring a water bottle to class. They must have a lid or snap top. Students are allowed to have clear, sugar free water only. If water bottles tip over, which can happen easily, plain water will not permenantly ruin books and materials. Water bottles must be taken home each night to be washed. Students may refill their water bottles only during class bathroom breaks. Students will not be allowed to leave the room soley to refill their bottles.

    Lining Up:
Students will practice the following procedures when lining up:

    L ooking forward
    I nner hands
    N ice and quiet
    E veryone's in a strait line

Students will follow these procedures when lining up and walking down the hallways. They must always look forward, keep their hands at their sides, remain quiet, and stay in a strait line. Students will be called to line up by tables. If students are not able to "LINE" up accordingly, they will be asked to sit down and try again until the process is done correctly.

    Personal Possessions:
Students are urged not to bring any expensive or valuable jewelry, toys, or other possessions to school. Toys or video games that are brought into the classroom will be held by the teacher until the end of the day and/or sent to the office.

Students that bring money into the classroom should keep it on their person at all times. Do not leave money in jacket pockets, book bags, or cubbies. Students should turn in all lunch money by 8:35 a.m.

Any school supply such as: book bags, pencil cases, crayon boxes, pencil sharpeners, etc should be clearly labeled with the child's name. We frequently have identical materials brought into the classroom. Labeling each item will help ensure that your child's supplies are not lost or mistaken for someone else's supplies.

    Student Progress:
Student progress will be evaluated through progress reports (given halfway through each trimester) and report cards (given at the completion of each 12 week grading period).  Parents are encourage to check grades, assignment, and attendance on line. At the beginning of the school year each parent will be given an envelope containing the directions and passwords needed to access the Harmony program. If you loose these directions, you will need to contact the district's technology department.  I will input grades weekly in most subjects. Assignments with a MIS are missing assignments and are counted as a zero. Missing assignments may not be made up without teacher permission. Absent work must be made up in 48 hours.
